Meet Jahmar

I was back and forth between different jobs, trying to find a place where I was comfortable with the atmosphere, and dealing with low hours due to the covid pandemic. I’ve had lots of practical cooking experience, but I’ve never been very academic. The Culinary program was awesome. I loved the class and felt it was very knowledgeable. It gave me the professional kitchen knowledge to combine with the cooking skills I had picked up over the years.

I was already working in Applebee’s restaurant. Through connections from Tec Centro, I was able to find a great opportunity at Bonefish Grill, where I like the set-up and the people there, and the menu. It is a good solid place to be able to build. Now I have two positions, got a raise, and have a higher feeling about my work. Tec Centro put me in a position to be able to do better. I think more people should find out about the program, figure out what they want to do, and prosper.

It’s a good motivator for people who haven’t been in school for many years. It’s not stressful, because you WANT to learn, and don’t HAVE to be there. I think this is one of the best things that happened to me in Lancaster. It triggered something in me to say, “here we are, and let’s see how far we can go!”

I want to keep learning as much as I can, and then see where I can grow in the food industry. I want to develop my recipes and apply the tools and knowledge I’ve been given to get people the food that they like.
