Job Description

ROLE:

The position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for operational positioning of the finances, accounting, liquidity, investments, and available capital. The CFO will be expected to oversee financial analysis, financial controls, planning and budgeting, long range forecasting, financial accounting systems and procedures, investor and corporate compliance, performance metrics, and asset, liability, and interest rate risk management. The CFO will oversee liquidity management, financial and portfolio risk management plans, projection models, and ongoing assessment of business lines for profitability. The CFO is responsible for providing strategic input that will guide all financial activities. Critical to the role is providing balance between risk and the mission objectives of the organization.

EXPECTATIONS

  • Executive Team Responsibilities
    1. Serves as a member of the executive team demonstrating an appropriate level of professionalism and leadership skills.
    2. Ensures that staff is championing the Strategic Plan.
    3. Provides leadership in the deployment of staff.
    4. Meets or exceeds budgeted financial performance.
  • Enterprise Risk Management
    1. Effectively manage interest rate, enterprise, and liquidity risk.
    2. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, laws, and audit guidelines.
    3. Oversee departmental metrics.
    4. Oversee a process for independent internal audit.
  • Accounting and Capital Management
    1. Oversees the accounting functions including grant accounting, revenue recognition, loan accounting, and monthly close.
    2. Oversees the annual budget, audit process, and internal audit function.
    3. Oversees the accounting interface with loan administration.
    4. Oversees the financial and accounting requirements of the Property Management Division
    5. Oversees expense control for the organization.
    6. Serves as a key member of the Board’s Finance Committee and assists in establishing committee objectives, meeting agendas, and preparation of information and materials for board and committee meetings.
    7. Works cooperatively to develop new and expanded sources of capital and monitor the effective utilization of those funds.
  • Property Management
    1. Oversees financial aspects of construction projects.
    2. Oversees the management of outside vendors for SACA and all subsidiaries/affiliates.
  • Direct and Supervise Key Finance Personnel
    1. Set goals and objectives to assess the performance of accounting and finance.
    2. Ensure training and support in all aspects of finance procedures.
    3. Ensure that the organizational mission and goals are met.
    4. Provide leadership and direction for Strategic Planning for finance and support assigned managers in their own strategic plan objectives.
    5. Monitor the consistency of established processes and procedures.
  • Individual, Team & Company Participation
    1. Quarterly Coaching Sessions and Annual Performance Planning
    2. SACA Board Meetings
    3. Department Meetings
      • Supervises and coordinates delivery of training and technical assistance activity to designated staff.
    4. Participates as a member of Finance Committee and other assigned committees.
    5. Executive Leadership Meetings
    6. Provides support to, and participates in, various company meetings as needed.
    7. Special Events Attendance & Support
    8. Develop a network within the nonprofit sector that contributes to personal growth and opportunities for SACA.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Products; with strong skills in Excel.
  • Capacity to learn departmental software systems and databases, including but not limited to financial, CRM, loan accounting, underwriting, and other data management software.
  • Experience with the successful implementation of financial software.

EXPERIENCE

  • B.A., Accounting.
  • Minimum of 15 years of recent experience in accounting and finance.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial analysis, risk analysis, risk management, and compliance regulations
  • Experience with investors and grants management
  • Minimum of 5 years Supervisory experience required managing a team.
