Job Description

Teach or instruct out-of-school youths and adults in the Culinary and Hospitality field.

Primary Functions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conducts classes, workshops and demonstrations to teach principles, techniques or methods in the culinary and hospitality field and workforce entry skills.
  • Determine training needs of students or workers.
  • Observes and evaluates students’ work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
  • Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions and demonstrations.
  • Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicates those objectives to students.
  • Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
  • Prepares and administers written, oral and performance tests, and issues grades in accordance with performance.
  • Uses computers, audiovisual aids and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
  • Prepares objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools.
  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional math materials to meet students’ varying needs, abilities and interests.
  • Maintain food and equipment inventories, and keep inventory records.
  • Monitor food preparation methods, portion sizes, and garnishing and presentation of food to ensure that food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner.
  • Schedule and receive food and beverage deliveries, checking delivery contents to verify product quality and quantity.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.

Key Results Areas

  • Effectively handle 10 students per class session.
  • Run an efficient student-run cafeteria model.
  • Develop and create a class curriculum

Experience:

Education, Training or Certification:

Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

One to two years related experience and / or training.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability:

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract, theoretical concepts and problems.

Certificates, licenses, registrations:

ServSafe Certification (within 60 days of hired)

Other skills and abilities, including computers, tools, equipment, technical knowledge:

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs; bilingual skills in Spanish / English required. Flexible schedule including evening hours and weekends.
